Technical Review and M&V

Verify program results and generate insights for participants that improve performance

Energy efficiency and GHG reduction programs depend on credible, defensible savings.

But measurement and verification (M&V) often becomes a compliance exercise—focused on reporting results rather than understanding performance. This can limit confidence in savings, obscure operational issues, and reduce the value of M&V for participants.

Goldfin provides technical review and M&V services that go beyond verification.
We apply IPMVP-adherent approaches to quantify savings from operational, behavioural, and capital initiatives—while also generating insights that participants can use to improve performance and sustain results.

Our work supports both program administrators and participants by ensuring savings are accurate, transparent, and actionable.

We provide:

  • Program-level M&V for a range of project types (operational, behavioural, capital)
  • Technical review of methodologies, assumptions, and reported savings
  • Development of measurement plans aligned with IPMVP best practices
  • Analysis of performance trends to identify issues and opportunities
  • Clear, decision-ready reporting for both program and participant needs

This approach ensures that M&V is not just about validating outcomes, but also about strengthening them.

Benefits

  • Increased confidence in reported energy and GHG savings
  • Consistent, defensible methodologies aligned with IPMVP
  • Identification of performance gaps and opportunities for improvement
  • More useful reporting for internal decision-making and communication

Case Study: Linamar

With Goldfin’s help, Linamar’s M&V reporting wasn’t just a program requirement, it became a critical tool to monitor performance and keep them on track to achieving their goals.

Linamar joined the IESO's Strategic Energy Management program to establish effective methods to improve their energy performance.
As part of the program, Goldfin worked with them to build a multi-variable regression model of their energy consumption.
This model was required to quantify achieved energy savings and calculate their performance incentive
But Linamar also used it to monitor progress, ensure shutdown procedures were being followed, and identify performance changes early to initiate corrective action.
