Strategic Energy and GHG Management Programs

Deliver high-impact SEM programs with stronger engagement and sustained results

2026 AESP ENERGY AWARD

Goldfin delivered the award-winning IESO Strategic Energy Management Program

Recognized by AESP in 2026 for demonstrating an innovative delivery that exceeded expectations through a combination of expert coaching, in-person and asynchronous training, peer learning, and implementation support across industrial, commercial, and institutional sectors.

81% of the 2-year program target achieved in the first year alone.

Strategic Energy Management (SEM) programs are a proven way to deliver persistent energy savings and GHG emission reductions, but results depend heavily on participant engagement, building of internal capabilities, and consistent application of energy management best practices.

Many programs struggle with drop-off in participation, limited internalization of best practices, and inconsistent results across cohorts. Training is often disconnected from implementation, and participants lack the support needed to translate concepts into action.

Goldfin partners with utilities and program administrators to design and deliver SEM programs that address these gaps.

Goldfin has helped hundreds of unique organizations overcome barriers and achieve their goals by:

  • Utilizing a team of senior coaches with experience in both energy management best practices and effective coaching techniques.
  • Employing a team of learning design professionals to develop high-quality training solutions built around adult learning best practices.
  • Leveraging Goldfin’s Energy Management Learning Platform to provide just-in-time online courses and learning resources.
  • Facilitating peer learning opportunities to get the most from the expertise and experience contained within participants themselves and increase collaboration.
  • Establishing strong measurement and verification plans that provide benefits to participants and confidence in savings to program administrators.

This structure ensures that participants not only understand SEM principles but apply them effectively within their own operations to achieve short- and long-term savings.

We work with program administrators to:

  • design SEM programs aligned with target sectors and program objectives
  • develop structured learning pathways and supporting materials
  • deliver training, facilitation, and coaching
  • track participant progress and program outcomes
  • continuously refine program design based on results and feedback

The result is a program that drives measurable energy savings while building lasting capability within participating organizations.

Benefits

  • Higher participant engagement and retention throughout the program
  • Stronger translation of training into implemented actions and results
  • Consistent delivery quality across cohorts and sectors
  • Measurable, persistent energy savings and GHG emission reductions

Case Study: Ontario’s SEM Program

Goldfin delivers one of the largest SEM programs in North America for the IESO. This award-winning program serves industrial, commercial, and institutional participants across Ontario.
Goldfin’s combination of one-on-one coaching, targeted group training, and online just-in-time learning resources helped participants overcome barriers and establish strong energy management practices.
As a result of Goldfin’s approach, the SEM Program achieved the full target program savings within the first year of a two-year program.
